Cakes and Ale weave broken rhythms, sleepy harmonies and tall tales into English folk music.
Cakes and Ale met in 2007 and started playing in living rooms, on street corners and at pagan weddings. They released their debut album ‘Five Shillings, Three Bushels of Corn and a Milchgoat’, recorded with Jonny Cole-Matthews at The Mill Studio, in December 2011 with help from Arts Council England.
The band are now based between London and Bristol. They released their latest album, Beggar’s Velvet, in September 2013. It was recorded at The Woodshed, Bristol, by Ben Capp and crowdfunded through a project on Indiegogo.
